Rules

Full Rules for the 2024 Resin Beast Competition:

What’s New in 2024:

The Resin Beast Painting Competition is back and even bigger in 2024! This year the Resin Beast includes Para Bellum Games, Eldritch Foundy, Bestiarum & Creature Caster together for one amazing contest. Together we have raised $21,000 in cash prizes! We hope this trend continues and we are able to expand the Resin Beast each and every year!

For Resin Beast 2024 you will be able to submit single models from Creature Caster, Eldritch Foundry, Bestiarum or Para Bellum Games into the Large, Mid Size, or Small Model Categories… but that is not all we are happy to announce the return of the Diorama category, and the Unit or Warband category. Entrants are allowed to enter all five categories if they wish but we will only count the top three prizes for any one Entrant. There is $21,000 USD in cash prizes, as well as merchandise, giftcards, and goods from our sponsors up for grabs.

While the Resin Beast brings some of the best painters in the world together to compete, we also want to make it fun and accessible for all skill levels, so don’t be intimidated! The Resin Beast is themed as a dungeon crawl, with participants banding together to defeat the monster in his lair. Just by submitting an entry, you will have started on an adventure with all your fellow competitors to journey through our dungeon and slay the Resin Beast. Rewards, and danger awaits for all those who challenge the Resin Beast!

Be sure to read all the rules fully, as there are many changes, including size restrictions for all categories.

General Rules for Model Entry:

  • Creature Caster, Bestiarum, and Eldritch Foundy Models must be the basis for your entry.
    • Conversions are welcome, but the original model must be clearly identifiable.
    • NO scratch-built models. Exception: base elements or diorama components can be scratch-built, provided the main focus of the entry is a model from our major sponsors.
    • 3rd party bases, basing material, or narrative supporting elements are allowed, provided they are not the focus of the entry.
    • Models do not have to be produced in resin, and may be of any material produced by the companies (i.e. resin, plastic, pvc, siocast, or any other material).
    • When in doubt please email support@creaturecaster.com for confirmation.
  • Only one official entrant per entry.
    • If the work was done as a collaboration, only one of the collaborators may enter into the contest and will be given sole consideration when awarding prizes and credit for the entry.
  • The paint job must be your own work. You may not enter someone else’s creation under your own name, except in the following circumstances.
    • Anonymous Entries:
      • Some painters may wish to enter anonymously to avoid recognition of their name. While complete anonymity is not possible for legal reasons, there is a system to allow for as much anonymity as possible if so required. See additional rules below.
    • Entries from competitors unable to attend in person.
      • To allow as many people to participate as possible we will allow entries from people unable to attend through a representative. See additional rules below.
    • All Entrants must be registered online and their entries must be submitted in person at the Resin Beast Booth at Adepticon in time for judging.
      • Registration is done online at https://resinbeast.com/collections/registration and must be completed before the entry can be accepted.
      • Entries will be accepted from opening on Thursday morning till Friday by 11am.
      • Judges will choose their top 10 each day (Thursday, Friday). Since each Judge makes that selection on a different day, entries submitted earlier will be seen by more judges and have a better chance of being selected as a top 10.
    • An Entrant may have multiple entries, but may only have one entry per Category.
      • There are a total of 5 Categories so this is a maximum of 5 entries (1 per category).
      • Categories are detailed below.
    • You MAY enter models that have won other competitions, or ones that have been shown online. You MAY enter models that you have entered before and worked to improve or modify. The only restriction is that you MAY NOT enter models that have placed at an in person (that is at a convention) Resin Beast Competition. Placing being 1st, 2nd, 3rd in any category.
    • A model’s base will be taken into consideration when judging, and can be important for creating thematic or narrative elements.
      • No additional points will be added for plinths or displays that extend beyond the base, however if such an element is added to a model, and not done with the same quality as the rest of the model it can lead to a loss of points (sometimes less is more).
      • Both the base and plinth are considered in size restrictions for the model.
    • All parts of the entry should be modeled to remain within the maximum dimensions whenever possible.
      • If a weapon/wing/or some extraneous elements of the original model extends beyond the maximum allowable dimensions, this will not be marked down or refused entry.
    • If in doubt on any point please check the FAQ (https://www.resinbeast.com/pages/faq) and if your question is still not answered contact support@creaturecaster.com

In addition to the Prizes the following will be awarded on top of any other prizes awarded above:

The Killing Blow: $2000 Cash Prize. For the entrant who obtains the highest average score with both a Creature Caster and Parabellum Model. This requires scoring high enough to place with least two entries. Please note that Diorama and Unit even if they include models from both companies will only count as a single entry. This prize represents our Best in Show Artist, and requires consistent performance across multiple metrics, so it is an extremely challenging, but rewarding achievement.

Community Choice: Cash Prizes of $500, $200, $100. The most popular models as featured on the Play on Tabletop video series will be awarded additional prizes. The community will have the opportunity to participate and vote.

Heart of the Beast: All entries that make it through the Judges initial selection will be eligible for a Heart of the Beast Token, and none cash prizes provided by our sponsors. The value of these prizes will be determined by the amount of sponsorship received, but is currently at $3600 in retail value and climbing!

Embark on your Quest: All entrants will be receiving supplies to embark on their quest to slay the Resin Beast. While this is a high level competition we also want to encourage a feeling of fun. Ultimately a competition is a community event and there is much to be gained whether you are vying for top spot, or just challenging yourself. A free gift will be given to all entrants to celebrate them embarking upon this epic quest together.

Legal Stuff:

All Entrants Agree to the Following:

Creature Caster, Para Bellum, and Adepticon (The Administrators) can freely take images, video, or other media (The Media) of the models that are submitted. The Media shall henceforth be the property of The Administrators and the Entrant waives all moral rights in regards to The Media. The Administrators may use the images as they see fit without payment to the Entrant. The Administrators will make best efforts to include credit to the Entrant when using images or video of their entry, but the Administrators are not required to do so, and may choose not to do so at their discretion.

Entrants agree that in order to be eligible for prizes they consent to having their picture taken with their entry. Entrants will endeavor to make themselves available for the awards presentation.

Entrants agree that if they are selected to have their winning entry announced online through Play on Tabletop that they will not make public (including but not limited through discussion or through any posts or other form of social media) their ranking until after the online announcement has been made.

The Entrant agrees to waive The Administrators from all liability or responsibility for any theft or damage that might occur to their entry. While The Administrators will always do their best to ensure the safety of the entries, the entrants accept that the convention is a public space, and there is a measure of risk associated with having their models on display. Models must be moved into and out of cases, and taken to a separate room for photography. While all care will be taken, accidents can happen, and the Entrant acknowledges they are aware of all risks and will not hold the Administrators liable for any damage to their entry, even due to the Administrators own handling of the entries.

The Entrant must leave their entry until the close of the exhibitors hall on Saturday during the Adepticon weekend as that is required for judging and photography. We ask that entries are left on Sunday as well to allow attendees of the Adepticon event to see the winning entries, however for those who have to travel the models may be picked up at close on Saturday. Entrants must reclaim their entry before the closing of the Exhibition hall on Sunday. If the Entrant fails to pick up their entree, Creature Caster and Parabellum will take the entered models back to their warehouse. In such a case the Entrant is responsible to pay for all shipping costs related to returning the models to them and waives the Administrators from any damages that may occur due to transport or shipping.

Creature Caster and Parabellum reserve the right to refuse admission of an Entrant or Entry for any reason. Creature Caster and Parabellum may exercise this right even after payment has been made. In this case the Entrant will be refunded in full.

Not sure we want to include this? It is here to prevent a complete sweep of the competition, but we also want high level artists to submit multiple entries... if they make the effort should we block them from winning? Please add or remove at your discretion - i am leaning towards removal.

These have been checked and verified against the website and against the spreadsheet. It never hurts to have more eyes on though :)
